Imranlı Barrage

The İmranlı Barrage, located east of Sivas on the Kızılırmak River—Turkey’s longest river—is a structure of vital importance to the region for both agricultural irrigation and energy production.

It is located approximately 100–110 km from the Sivas provincial center and quite close to the İmranlı district center.

Built between 1994 and 2002, it is an earth-fill barrage.

It is primarily operated to irrigate agricultural lands in the region and to generate hydroelectric power.

Natural Beauty and Activities

Imranlı is home to the foothills of Kızıldağ, where the Kızılırmak River originates. The reservoir lake has a very clean and clear appearance because it is fed by the river’s fresh waters.

The reservoir is a popular spot for local residents and amateur anglers from neighboring provinces. Species such as mirror carp can be caught here.

The mountainous landscape surrounding the reservoir and the reflection of the sky on the water offer unique photo opportunities, especially at sunrise and sunset.

Although there are no highly developed facilities directly around the barrage, nearby locations such as Koyunkaya Mesiresi are popular for relaxation due to their pine forests and fresh air.
