About

The lake is located between the districts of Hafik and Zara. It lies 17 km east of Hafik and 12 km west of Zara. It is situated at the 50th kilometer mark of the Sivas-Erzurum highway. The lake has a surface area of 350 hectares, a maximum depth of 44.5 meters, and an average depth of 2–3 meters. The lake takes its name from the village of Tödürge, located 1 km to the south.

Many birds come to this lake to fish. The lake covers an area of approximately 5 square kilometers and lies at an elevation of 1,295 meters above sea level. It is the largest lake in Sivas and contains two islands. In most of the lake, the depth ranges from 4 to 10 meters. Fed by both springs at the bottom and water from the surrounding area, the lake’s water is calcareous and salty. It is one of the rare lakes where 17 different species of fish thrive. Some of the birds that can be observed around Lake Tödürge include: the Crested Grebe, the Red-necked Grebe, the Stork, the Goosander, Common Teal, Black Kite, White-tailed Eagle, Reed Bunting, Crane, Black-winged Stilt, Redshank, Common Sandpiper, Hungarian Goose, and Yellow-headed Bunting.
