Key Features of the Destination

Built in the 19th century, the caravanserai has a rectangular floor plan and two stories. Shops facing the street are located on the north and east sides (Denizli, 1998: 141). The building is constructed entirely of cut stone, has a rectangular plan, and features an open courtyard. The caravanserai is accessed through round-arched doors on the north, south, and east facades. In the pool at the center of the stone-paved courtyard, water flows from the mouths of two-headed animals placed in opposite directions on an Elif-shaped stone. Shops are lined up behind the arcades on the north and south sides of the courtyard. The upper floor is accessed via stone-stepped staircases located immediately next to the east and west entrances. Like the lower level, the upper-level arcade consists of six columns connected by round arches and covered by a vault. The upper-level rooms feature barrel vaults on the interior, while the exterior of each space is topped by a gabled roof covered with grooved tiles. The upper-floor rooms feature rectangular windows with iron grilles, and circular windows are located on the gable ends of the pitched roofs (Bilget, 2009, p. 283).

The Importance of the Destination and Its Current Status

Inside the caravanserai today, there are bag shops and shoe stores, while the shops facing the street house confectioneries and jewelry stores.
