About

In Sivas, this art form is not merely jewelry making; it is seen as a “journey of perseverance” that combines patience, technical skill, and an aesthetic sensibility.

In Sivas, silver is typically brought to life through three main techniques:

Telkâri (Filigree): This is created by melting silver in furnaces and drawing it into wires as thin as a strand of hair. These wires are then twisted and assembled into motifs such as the “vav,” “sim,” “drop,” and “shuttle.” Sivas filigree is recognized as one of the three most important centers in Turkey, alongside Mardin and Beypazarı.

Savat (Niello): This technique involves filling indentations carved into silver with a special black-colored metal alloy. It is used to create aesthetic black patterns, particularly on silver belt buckles, trays, and brooches.

Engraving: This is the art of creating depth on silver surfaces by carving them with special engraving tools. It is commonly used for decorating cup sleeves and boxes.
