General Information About the Route: The best place to start exploring Sivas and learning about its history is the historic city square and its surroundings. The historic city square resembles an open-air museum. The historic city square is home to masterpieces dating back to the Anatolian Seljuk, Ottoman, and Republican eras. On this route, you’ll have the chance to explore, observe, and experience these three civilizations firsthand through their historic structures. All the historical structures along this route—such as madrasas and caravanserais—as well as the museums, are within walking distance and a pleasure to explore. Along the route, you’ll find food and beverage establishments where you can sample local culinary specialties (Sivas köfte, kelle, peskütan, Sivas kebab, mumbar, Divriği pilaf, kalbura bastı, Sivas simit, katmer, çörek, etc.) and easily find shops where you can purchase local tourist souvenirs (Sivas knives, combs, pens, pastırma, sucuk, etc.). You can complete the route, including stops for dining, shopping, and other activities, in 6–7 hours. The entire route is within walking distance. In downtown Sivas, you can start your day with breakfast options—including “kelle kebap” or regional soup varieties like “kele paça,” “ayak paça,” “atom,” and “peskütan”—that you won’t find anywhere else in Turkey, or enjoy a breakfast featuring warm, fresh, crispy Sivas simit. We recommend wearing comfortable shoes and season-appropriate, comfortable clothing, and capturing your trip with a camera or other electronic devices.
